Inspiring others, like Dr. Seuss

“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!”
― Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

For my senior high school graduation ceremony’s I was asked to read this specific quote to my fellow classmates and their family and friends to wish them off into the “real world”. I remember how I felt as I walked up to the stage to perform this famous quote, and it was my own determination that got me on to that stage. I did not make the correlation at the time that someone had believed that my character and my personal story was the best representation and mirror to this motivational Dr. Seuss quote. I mean if Kadie Chronister can do it, you can too, right?

On my road to believing in others like they have believed in me I have found many lives that I feel lucky to be a part of. I feel like my ability to pinpoint and recognize strengths and opportunities in people is a natural ability that was evolved from being a person who consistently looked for support from others. A young man I use to work with shared with me his passion to be a writer and we quickly bonded over our love for reading and writing. He is more into poems, while I am more into creative and non-fiction writing. Yesterday, I received an email from him with his latest poem that he constructed, and although we haven’t worked together in weeks, I am forever here to support his creativity! To Barrington Grant and Dr. Seuss, you both will forever inspire me!

Every night I die
And every morning I am reborn
Hoping it’s in a form
to last
Absolution
From the very things that
Allow me to be me
For it is the things I am
That composite what I am
– B. A. Grant
